The Headlines

Ah yes! The end of boring weather is nigh! Rain is in the air and I can almost taste it…

sooooo clooooose. (Giphy/NFL)

But, there’s still one more summer-like day to contend with for your Friday.

The Details

Our main player the past few days has been a dome of high pressure sitting over the eastern third of the United States. It’s been keeping us high and dry so far, except for a sprinkle or two, but it’s beginning to break down and move off to the east and that spells changes for us.

But the high’s got one more day left in it for us and it’s going to continue to make its presence felt. After some patchy fog in the usual locations this morning, warm and at times muggy conditions will continue for the day today. Feeling more like summer than fall once again.

Today: Patchy fog possible early, otherwise partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies. Highs topping out near 83º with a slight breeze. Increasing cloudiness at night, lows falling to around 65º.

  • Wake up: 🌤 57°
  • Lunch hour: 🌤 79°
  • Afternoon plans: 🌤 82°
  • Evening time: 🌤 74°

But, there are changes afoot.

As the high pressure starts to lose it’s influence over the region, a cold front accompanying a trough of low pressure will begin to pivot into the region, providing us the most significant rain chance in some time.

The surface low pressure and cold front will still be quite far off, so we’ll only see scattered showers but they will be increasing in coverage as the front drags it’s way closer to the region. It won’t rain all day but showers will be out there. Temperatures will still be warm but a bit cooler thanks to all the cloud cover in the region. Overall, a great day to stay inside and watch football.

Tomorrow: Mostly cloudy and breezy with showers becoming more numerous. High in the upper 70s to near 80º. Showers become widespread overnight with a low around 70º.

  • Wake up: 🌧 64°
  • Lunch hour: 🌧 77°
  • Afternoon plans: 🌧 79°
  • Evening time: 🌧 74°

And gets even soggier for Sunday.

Sunday. (Giphy/Nat Geo)

The front will be upon us and it may try to join forces with what’s left of Tropical Storm Nate as it’s remnants head in our direction. For us, that means widespread showers and a few storms. Not a great end to the weekend. Temperatures will be warm outside of showers but, again, down from the last few days.

We haven’t seen rain in awhile, so we probably won’t see too much flooding but we still don’t really need it thanks to our wet September setting us around 5.5″ above normal rainfall.

Sunday: Breezy with widespread showers and a storm or two. High once again just below 80º. Showers continue into the night with a low in the mid to upper 60s.

  • Wake up: 🌧 67°
  • Lunch hour: 🌧 73°
  • Afternoon plans: 🌧 78°
  • Evening time: 🌧 70°

We’ll also have to keep an eye on what’s left of Nate as the tropical remnants scoot near our area late Sunday into Monday and that may mean even more rain. We’ll keep an eye on it but for now, the latest track on Nate from the National Hurricane Center from this morning. Nate could become a weak hurricane before a gulf coast landfall.

The Bottomline

  • “Summer 2: Electric Boogaloo” continues through today with warm and slightly muggy conditions.
  • A cold front moves in giving us a shot at widespread showers this weekend.
  • All eyes on Nate to assess the impacts the tropical system poses for our weather into next week.

That just about does it for me! Thanks for checking into wxornotBG this morning, and be sure to follow @wxornotBG and @WKUweather on Twitter and like Landon Hampton on Facebook for the latest on the weather throughout the day. Have a terrific Friday!
