Summer… Not Quite Over Yet

The Headlines

The calendar may say September and meteorology may say it’s fall but it looks like nobody told Mother Nature because she’s making up for Irma’s seemingly extended stay this past week with a little dose of summer.

The Details

Irma finally fell apart and drifted away leaving us with sunny skies to finish off our Thursday as a ridge of high pressure began to build into the Ohio Valley.

*looks up* Oh there it is. (Weather Prediction Center)

Since we’ve been so wet the past few days, it’s allowed us to get pretty moist and sticky out, which has lead to some dense fog this morning, so allow yourself some extra time getting to work and/or school this morning.

Dense Fog Advisory in effect through 9am this morning. (NWS Louisville)

After the fog though, wow is this a great Friday.

What you’ll be doing this afternoon. (Giphy)

We’ll have temperatures warming up to around 80º under mostly sunny skies which, for late September, is pretty darn good.

Today: **Dense Fog Advisory in effect through 9 AM** Dense fog in the morning before clearing into an absolutely magnificent day. Highs in the upper 70s to near 80º. We’ll settle back to the mid-60s under clear skies with some more fog developing towards morning.

  • Wake up: 🌫 65°
  • Lunch hour: 🌤 78°
  • Afternoon plans: 🌤 80°
  • Evening time: 🌤 72°

And why stop there? It’s going to be another great day tomorrow.

I mean substitute the empty amusement park for a football stadium. (Giphy)

High pressure remains dominant in our weather and although we may see another couple of areas of patchy fog in the morning thanks to that pesky low-level moisture, overall we’re going to see a great day. Not quite traditional football weather but still perfect for all those tailgates tomorrow as the Tops open conference play.

🔴🏈Tomorrow🏈🔴: A touch of patchy fog possible early, otherwise mostly sunny skies once again for a wonderful WKU game day. Highs top out in the lower-to-mid 80s. Clear skies at night will put us right around 65º for a low.

  • Wake up: 🌫🌤 65°
  • Lunch hour: 🌤 77°
  • Tailgating: 🌤 82°
  • Game time: 🌤 76°

You know the drill by now. Still under high pressure, still have great weather.

Alright, I ran out of Vacation GIFs, so I had to switch to Christmas Vacation even though Tori did that yesterday. (IFC/Giphy)

Highs continue to rest closer to summer norms than fall norms, as we’ll top out well into the 80s again on Sunday. Somehow it feels so wrong to be this warm in September…then you walk outside and it feels so right.

I mean, look at these! (Pivotal Weather)

It’s going to feel so good outside that even Clark’s boss is gonna enjoy it!

For a barbecue because the weather’s gonna be great, right? (Giphy)

Sunday: We’ll do it again for Sunday. Mid-80s and mostly sunny skies will prevail. Mid-60s and clear at night to round out the weekend.

  • Wake up: 🌤 65°
  • Lunch hour: 🌤 79°
  • Afternoon plans: 🌤 81°
  • Evening time: 🌤 74°

The Bottomline

  • Expect some dense fog this morning as you head out.
  • After the fog burns off it’s going to be a fantastic day, with highs in the mid-80s, feeling like summer.
  • Patchy fog possible tomorrow morning as well.
  • Expect more summer weather for both days this weekend as high pressure remains in control.

That just about does it for me! Thanks for checking into wxornotBG this morning, and be sure to follow @wxornotBG and @WKUweather on Twitter and like Landon Hampton on Facebook for the latest on the weather throughout the day. Have a terrific Friday!
