The Headlines
Without a doubt, the big thing on our radar today is what remains of Harvey. The Low Pressure Formerly Known As Hurricane Tropical Storm Tropical Depression Harvey continues it’s slow march into the Ohio Valley, bringing lots of heavy rain with it.
Harvey’s remnants are going to dump quite a bit of rain on our neck of the woods throughout the next 12-24 hours. It’s not going to be anything like the devastation the Houston region has seen but it will still be quite a bit of rain. In fact, we’ve already seen some hefty totals just in the last 6 hours or so.
In addition, several area school districts have also closed their doors for today.
Flash flooding will remain possible in all the usual spots though widespread river flooding isn’t likely. Still though, expect some elevated levels along the Green, Barren, and Rough Rivers.
The Details
So, what’s left of Harvey is still a potent system as it heads into our region. Of course, Harvey’s main calling card being torrential tropical downpours, which will be in no shortage today. The large shield of rain associated with the storm’s remnants entered the region last night and will continue to work it’s way through the region during the day today.
Though the flood potential isn’t the only thing we’re looking at with this system, we also run the (small) risk of an isolated spin-up tornado since the low pressure is imparting so much rotation into the atmosphere. They aren’t likely and if they do pop-up, they’ll probably be small but they can do damage. Keep and ear on the weather radio today.
Today: **Flash Flood Watch in effect through late tonight.** Breezy with heavy rain throughout the day. High around 70º. The breezy downpours continue into the overnight with a low right around 55º.

Things begin to improve as we head into the long weekend.
Harvey will finally begin to move away (after a bit of wrap-around moisture on the backside, of course) and leave us with improving conditions for the second half of the day…including this year’s WKU home opener against EKU. Though, I would bring a jacket since it could get chilly towards the end.
Tomorrow: Rain sticking around early in the day but drying late. High right around 70º. Clouds begin to clear at night, and we’ll fall back to around 53º.

The beautiful weather won’t return until our day on Sunday, when high pressure will begin to build in.
We’ll see much warmer temperatures and a full return to sunshine, especially welcome news after a quite rainy 48 hours.
Sunday: Sunny skies return for our Sunday as lower humidity works in for a great day! We’ll top out around 80º. Clear skies at night as well, lows right around 60º.
