Update: Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued
Until 8 PM CDT North of Bowling Green
Although the watch is just north of the region, severe weather is also possible in this region.
The Storm Prediction Center is monitoring parts of south-central Kentucky for severe weather. As of now the SPC has outlined the entire region in a “slight” risk of severe weather. Think of this as a level 2 out of 5 risk.
Satellite imagery and the White Squirrel Weather NestCam both indicated cumulus clouds are forming across the region. This means the region is ripe for thunderstorm development.
A shortwave trough is also moving in our direction, which should enhance lift, creating the opportunity for scattered showers and storms to develop in the afternoon.
A line of showers and storms should develop along and ahead of a cold front. This cold front will make it’s way into the region this evening and overnight. The main hazards with storms will be lightning, damaging wind, and heavy rain.
Outside of storms, temperatures are already in the mid 80s across the region. Combine this with dew point temperatures in the mid 70s and you get temperatures that feel like they’re in the mid to upper 90s. Gusty southwest winds will also be possible throughout the afternoon.
That should wrap up this post. Be sure to follow @wxornotBG and @WKUweather for the latest Bowling Green weather information. Have a great afternoon!
