Heat, Storms, And Relief; Oh My!

Isolated thunderstorms this afternoon, a couple of which could be strong. Temperatures won’t be quite as hot today as they have been the last few days. But, it will still be plenty warm.

Today – Foggy Early; Isolated Storms Later – High 91° / Tonight – Isolated Storms Early – Low 70°

Looking at the White Squirrel Weather NestCam this morning, I see some areas of patchy fog across the region. This should dissipate rather quickly this morning.

This morning temperatures are right around 70° across the region. Dew point temperatures in the upper 60s will make it feel quite gross this morning!

There’s a stationary boundary draped just to the north of the region. This boundary will likely initiate afternoon thunderstorms. As of now, I expect the thunderstorms to remain isolated in nature.

A few storms may be strong to severe with damaging wind, heavy rain, and lightning being the main threats. The Storm Prediction Center has outlined our region in a “marginal” risk of severe weather. Think of this as a level 1 out 5 threat.

Thunderstorms may continue early into the overnight. Expect lows to drop to around 70° after they depart. Patchy fog may develop late overnight.

Tuesday – Foggy Early; Partly Cloudy – High 88° / Tues Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 70°

Tuesday morning should be a carbon copy of this morning. Expect to be waking up to some patchy fog with temperatures right around 70°.

Expect partly cloudy skies to develop as high pressure drops south into the region. This Canadian high pressure system will also cool us off some despite an upper level ridge building into the region. Highs will likely be around 88°. So, not too shabby!

Partly cloudy skies should stay overnight. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a few isolated showers early. Lows will be right around 70° once again.

Wednesday – Partly Cloudy – High 90° / Wed Night – Mostly Clear – Low 72°

The ridge to the south of the region will continue to build into Wednesday. This will lead to partly cloudy skies once again. Temperatures should increase a tad as well, so expect highs to be right around 90°.

Mostly clear skies should develop overnight. Lows will remain mild, in the low to mid 70s.

Extended Outlook

Our next big weather-maker should arrive on Thursday. A shortwave trough will swing a cold front across the region. This will lead to widespread showers and thunderstorms on Thursday. A few storms may be strong to severe.

The cold front should push south of the region on Friday, leaving us with an absolutely gorgeous weekend! Rain may be possible early on Friday, but highs will remain in the mid 80s. Expect mid to low 80s under partly cloudy skies on Saturday and Sunday!
