Discussion

I hope everyone got their fix of sunshine yesterday, because it won’t be making it’s return any time soon…

This morning, light showers will be making their way out of South Central Kentucky here shortly. This will give way to mostly cloudy skies this afternoon, with winds kicking up out of the south. These southerly winds will help in warming our temperatures and supplying our atmosphere with even more moisture to gear up for more showers in the near future.

Once this morning’s rain showers clear out, were looking at a much drier and fairly mild afternoon as temperatures approach the 60 degree mark. Overnight, rain chances return. There’s nothing better than sleeping to the sound of rain, so be sure to catch some good Zzz’s.

By tomorrow morning, temperatures will be very warm for this time of year, which will help us to reach yet another high in the 70s. I absolutely love the warmer temperatures, but I am absolutely dreading my electricity bill for this month.

While temperatures are warming, the chance of showers and particularly thunderstorms, return to the area. The Storm Prediction Center has placed us under a slight risk for severe weather on Tuesday.

The set up for this system is complicated, to put it simply. Overnight, a warm front is going to be pushing through our area, which could bring us a few scattered showers and rumbles of thunder in the early morning hours. By tomorrow afternoon, it will be very windy and warm, which helps us to set up for a more potent round of thunderstorms on Wednesday that have the potential to be severe.

The timing of the set up is very complicated, a cold front is expected to race across the Ohio Valley but just how fast it is going will effect the impacts it will have on us. If the front moves slower, damaging winds will likely be a threat. If it moves faster, the larger threat would move further east of South Central Kentucky.

The WxorNot team will keep you up to date with the latest on severe weather. As more data pours in, we will continue to refine our thoughts on what will pan out in the upcoming days.
