Discussion

Today, we’re looking at another warm day with temperatures topping out in the low to mid 70’s. Mostly cloudy skies will likely keep us from hitting those record temperatures, but it’s still going to be warm across the region. Tonight, steady southerly wind flow and increasing dewpoints will keep overnight lows very mild.

Friday is when it starts to get interesting…

A closed mid-level low will develop across the Midwest late tonight into early tomorrow morning. This will create a strong surface low to form and propagate to our north through Illinois, Indiana, and then the Great Lakes.  This low will drag a cold front through the Ohio Valley Friday night.

This low looks to have a strong wind field associated with it, meaning that it’s going to be pretty windy on Friday. However, with strong southerly wind flow at the surface, we will likely see temperatures increase to the upper 70’s, approaching the 80 degree mark, by the afternoon.

The cold front associated with this low looks to move through during dinnertime/evening and will be the main driving force for any strong to severe storms that will occur. Because of this late arrival of the front, the atmosphere may be stabilizing, decreasing the threat for severe weather. The main threat with these storms will be damaging winds and heavy rain in thunderstorms. Make sure to check back tomorrow for the latest information regarding this event.

Saturday will be colder due to the frontal passage and a bit blustery outside. Highs will try to reach the 50 degree mark, but will struggle to do so.
