Yesterday’s Weather

Discussion
What a seasonably boring forecast this looks to be! I mean, today looks to be the only day that is way separated from average the next few days, so I mean this forecast is looking pretty okay.
Lets jump right into this! There is currently a low pressure system to our north, quickly propagating eastward in advance of a jet streak and its associated divergence. This low has a pretty tight pressure gradient to its south, creating surface flow from the southwest and west-southwest, thus warming temps a good bit across the region.
Behind this is…well, not very cold air. That sort of arrives by Thursday, but I’ll get to that in a second. As you may expect, this low pressure system is packing with it some clouds, and those will move across the region during the morning hours and into the afternoon.
It won’t be too cloudy, so expect a pretty nice afternoon, especially for late January. Highs should jump to around 60! Get out and enjoy it this afternoon, because that won’t last long this week. I think I may go for a run, or try to catch a fish or two.
By tomorrow, we will be firmly within the favorable region of that jet streak I mentioned earlier, and this will keep clouds positioned across the region. I wouldn’t expect rainfall anywhere, but there is a slight chance that we see light rainfall in some portions of the region.
Overall, though, I just expect partly to mostly cloudy temps, with highs being held in the lower 50s. Colder air begins to filter in tomorrow night, with northerly flow increasing and bringing subfreezing temps back to the region.
Thursday looks pretty dang nice. Clouds will clear quickly in the morning, giving way to mostly sunny skies in the afternoon. Highs will only be in the 40s, but when sunny skies are present, its easy to get over the temps!
So, overall, the forecast doesn’t look too bad this week. Temps return to the seasonal range tomorrow, and especially Thursday. Don’t expect precip, but do look for clouds to be present across the region.
