Forecast Discussion

Well, we get a nice rebound in temperatures, but wet weather will be the price to pay for that luxury. The question is: would you rather have rain and temperatures in the 50s, or dry weather  with temperatures in the 20s? If you chose the first one, then you’ll enjoy this forecast!

Upper level ridging will move into the region today which will help moderate temperatures across the region. According to the weather station at the airport, Bowling Green has seen below freezing temperature for around 100 hours straight! It’s honestly driving me crazy!

Clouds may increase throughout the day as a trough begins to approach the region from the west. However, expect high temperatures to top out around 42°. Southerly winds will also help temperatures out as they’ll be cranking around 10-20 mph. Cloudy skies should continue overnight with lows around 35°.

A warm front will lift through the region on Tuesday. This will lead to some isolated showers. However, temperatures will continue to warm throughout the day. Highs will even crack 50° en route to a high of around 52°! Showers will increase during the evening hours as a cold front approaches the region. A rumble of thunder will even be possible!

The wind may be the real weather story on Tuesday. Southerly winds will still be in place across the region, however a strong low level jet will be in place. Outside of any showers or potential thunderstorms winds will be around 15 – 25 mph with gusts as high as 40 mph possible. The below image is the Hi-Res NAM Model. I believe the values are a bit overdone, but it gives you a good general idea of the wind that will be in place.

Showers and thunderstorms will continue into Wednesday morning. However, we should see a decrease in precipitation in the afternoon as the upper level energy moves to the north of the region. Temperatures will increase substantially under southerly flow. Expect a high temperature in the low 60s.

Looking Ahead

The aforementioned cold front will become a more stationary front for the next several days. This will lead to off and on rain chances for much of the coming week. However, we look to be on the south side of the stationary front, leading to mild conditions. It should be noted that if we find our way north of the stationary front, conditions could be much different. On the north side of the front, cold air should undercut warm southwest flow in the low to mid levels of the atmosphere. This can potentially lead to some icy concerns. However, for the time being, I think Bowling Green should remain south of the front.
