Hope is On The Horizon For Bowling Green Weather

Real-time Bowling Green Weather Radar

Yesterday’s Weather

Yesterday’s Bowling Green weather was particularly brutal, especially in the temperature department. Anytime we have a snowpack on the ground, even if it is small, temperatures are likely too be cooler than they otherwise would be. Yesterday and last night were no different. It was cold.

Discussion

First of all…can we talk about how absolutely cold Bowling Green Weather is this morning!? My goodness! I am at home in central KY, and it dropped down to 3°F last night. THREE. That is ridiculous.

In BG, it dropped down to 8°F!! It is just obscenely cold outside. If you have pets, please be wary of how long they are out this morning. And if you go out to do anything at all this morning, be sure to bundle up in plenty of layers to protect yourselves.

As the title mentions, there is plenty of hope on the horizon. We won’t be stuck in this weather forever, I assure you of it! It looks to warm up at some point, just not today or tomorrow.

A deep trough is currently moving east-northeastward across the eastern portion of the country. This is what has laid all of the wintry precip to our south, causing major traffic headaches in many areas. This trough has an associated surface high pressure system, and this is what is keeping our weather pretty benign the next couple days.

The high pressure system will plague us with cold, but overall, keep our weather nice. h/t pivotalweather.com

The surface high is associated with strong arctic air, and should continue to keep our weather really cold over the next two days. Highs don’t look to get above 20°F today, and tomorrow, they shouldn’t get above freezing.

Lows will be even colder! Lows will again be in the single digits tonight. Brutal, brutal cold. You know the drill: pets stay inside, don’t allow skin to be exposed in that kind of cold for a while, etc.

However, by Monday, the hope should begin to arrive! The surface high pressure system will shift to the east coast, and a low pressure system will begin to knock on our door. This will advect moisture into the region, creating cloud cover by Sunday evening. This will last through the day on Monday. Underneath this, breezy conditions will develop between the high over the east coast and the low in the central US. This will really be our warming factor.

The south to southwesterly flow will be the main culprit for warming on Monday. h/t pivotalweather.com

As an aside: next week looks rainy/stormy, so be prepared for that. Outside of that, it also looks much warmer than these few days have been.

Today’s Key Points

  • Very, very cold
  • Clouds increase by Sunday evening, marking the first signs of the warm up
  • Breezy on both Monday and Tuesday
  • Warmer this coming week
