Forecast Discussion

High pressure has settled into the region, bringing cold air with it. Temperatures are currently around 32°-34° in Bowling Green. With high pressure in place and zonal, westerly flow aloft, expect a pretty dull weather day. Cloudy skies should begin to break up to partly cloudy skies throughout the day. The high temperature will likely climb to around 39°.

Even more clouds will depart overnight, leaving us with mostly clear skies. Clouds during the overnight hours act as a “blanket”. Once this “blanket” is removed, things get a little bit chilly. Expect lows tonight to be around 18°!

Northwest flow will move into the region on Thursday. This will keep conditions cold across the area. Partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies are expected to remain in place, however the sun won’t necessarily help those temperatures climb. You can expect highs to end up around 25°.

A few more clouds may come during the overnight hours on Thursday night. However, continued northwest flow aloft will keep things rather cold. You can expect a low temperature around 18° once again. Relief is in sight though!

A upper-level ridge will begin to move into the region on Friday. This will bring westerly flow aloft and southerly flow near the surface. The result is a break from the bitter cold temperatures that we’ve been seeing. Albeit not balmy, the forecast high of 41° certainly beats temperatures in the 20s!

A warm front will lift north through the area on Friday night. This will lead to isolated showers across the area. It will also lead to warming temperatures throughout the night. Temperatures may be approaching 50 by the time we wake up on Saturday!

Today’s Key Points

  • No precipitation is expected today
  • Cold temperatures move in overnight
  • Cold remains in place
  • Warm up expected on Friday and into weekend

Looking Ahead

It appears that a strong cold front will move through the region on Saturday. As of now, surface temperatures will drop below freezing before temperatures aloft. Therefore a transition from rain to freezing rain to sleet to snow appears possible. This is still several days out so we won’t get into the details just yet, but let this serve as “head’s up” to potential winter weather mischief Saturday night and Sunday morning.

That should wrap up this forecast. Be sure to follow @WxOrNotBG and @WKUweather for the latest Bowling Green weather information. If you have Facebook you can also check Landon Hampton’s page for more Bowling Green weather information. Have a great day and stay warm the next couple of days!
