NAM 500 mb Heights & Winds, valid today, via COD Meteorology – Ridge axis over Kentucky

This upper level ridge that we’ve been talking about will continue to strengthen over the area today, while surface high pressure moves eastward. This will allow us to stay dry, along with increasing southerly flow. Expect temperatures to jump into the upper 70’s today and tomorrow because of this influx of warm air.

Friday looks to be nearly identical to today, except for the increasing cloud cover. Expect clouds to build throughout the day out ahead of a strong cold front.

Friday night, expect rounds of showers for most of the overnight hours. Some of you may also experience some thunderstorm activity, but I wouldn’t put much confidence in that.

Winds will shift out of the northwest on Saturday, allowing for a much colder airmass to work its way into the region. It’s also going to be fairly breezy Saturday with temperatures in the mid 40’s, so definitely wear a coat if you go out.

Extended Outlook

Sunday looks to be pretty much exactly like Saturday, so definitely wear warm clothing if you go out anywhere. Next week, temperatures look to rise into the mid to upper 50’s, with our first chance of rain coming next Wednesday.
