Real-time Bowling Green Weather Radar
Yesterday’s Weather
Yesterday was two things. One, it was less cloudy than I expected. Two, it became warmer than I expected, which I am bummed about. My forecast wasn’t exactly great. Now I am pretty confident that we end up being above what I would normally forecast today! The high ended up being 68°F yesterday, which was 4 degrees above my forecast. Not a great forecast, so I need to improve that.

Discussion
Whoa, wait, what!? There is something interesting to forecast! The apocalypse must be upon us, as this feels about as rare as anything has in quite sometime. I am so exited about it that it isn’t even funny.
The basic synoptic pattern only gets really interesting Thursday night and into Friday, but I’ll get to that in a second. Before that, it is going to get warm. As in, waaaaaay above average temperatures warm.
The models haven’t exactly done great with temperatures over the past few days, and that is why I went into the 70s today. It should be sunny the majority of the day, allowing for temps to warm really nicely. By tomorrow, though, we will be within an anomalously strong ridge that looks to form, and amplify, in response to the Friday system.
What looks to happen is a trough of low pressure looks to dig into the western United States, and propagate eastward. This will deepen and amplifying and creating an anomalously strong ridge that looks to move into our region tomorrow. This will likely aid in creating warm surface temperatures well into the 70s, and we may make a run at 80°F.
I don’t think we get there either tomorrow or Friday. Still, though, this warmth is highly anomalous, and isn’t really something we see every year. By Friday, the real fun begins.
The trough will have deepened and likely taken on a slightly negative tilt by Friday afternoon/evening, which forces a strong low pressure system at the surface (On another note: the first winter storm of the season is expected over the northern Plains on the northwestern side of this low). This low will move from central Kansas, through Iowa and into the upper peninsula of Michigan.
As this occurs, it will intensify pretty quickly, and will also run into a surface high pressure system hanging out over the eastern United States. What does this mean? A tight pressure gradient, which equals windy conditions. Friday afternoon, evening and overnight all look fairly breezy to windy at times. In addition to this, the low will drag a cold front towards us. This front will have a much cooler air mass behind it, and should actually produce a line of showers and storms along its leading edge.
This won’t give us the rainfall we need, but it could give us a good, brief soaking. Behind the front? Windy conditions, and a very cold Saturday.
