Discussion
This week is looking really interesting weather-wise. Not interesting in that the actual weather looks interesting, but the forecast is relatively interesting.
That helps keep everything nice! Currently a deep trough is over the western Great plains, and is lifting into Canada. This is, largely, one of the driving factors for the next few days, as this lifting low will keep a ridge fairly amplified over the region the next couple days.
Today and tomorrow look fairly similar, as there don’t appear to be any approaching shortwaves or anything on the surface that appear to really mess the forecast up from looking really nice. I am expecting partly cloudy skies across the region for today and tomorrow, and lower humidity. This pesky ridge will be relatively amplified, but won’t be very strong, so high temps aren’t likely.
Expect highs in the mid 80s both days, with Wednesday looking a bit warmer than today. The overnight periods look similar, as well, with partly cloudy skies occurring with lows falling into the upper 50s.
Thursday is where the forecast gets a little funky. A surface high pressure system is forecast to move into the region from the northeast, and usher in some weak northeasterly flow at the surface. Because of this high pressure system, I am anticipating a bit of a cooler day for your Thursday.
Expect highs to reach the lower 80s under partly cloudy skies. The overnight period looks to be partly cloudy skies, with lows falling into the mid 50s.
Extended Outlook
Remember last week when we didn’t know what the forecast would look like because of the impact Hurricane Matthew might have on the atmospheric flow? Well, we still aren’t really sure of that. The models will continue to struggle with that until Matthew is out of the picture, and then the models can go back to struggling with regular Fall conditions! But in all seriousness, we are looking at a likely cool down by the weekend, which will be nice.
As a special side note: please keep the folks in Haiti in your thoughts and prayers today. Hurricane Matthew made landfall on the western Haitian coast this morning, and is currently devastating the coast there. That country is not in any position to handle a storm of this magnitude, so please keep them in your prayers today.
