Forecast Discussion

Hot and humid will be the storyline in today’s weather. It’s pretty disgusting to be quite honest with you. The hot and humid weather is all due in part to a big ridge parked across the region. We’ll need this ridge to break down if we want any relief from the heat.

Due to the few showers and storms we saw across the region yesterday, I can’t completely throw out rainfall chances today, even though conditions synoptically aren’t conducive to storm development. Storms yesterday may have thrown out some boundaries that storms may fire along today. Hi-res models aren’t overly impressed with our chances.

If any storms do form, they’ll contain heavy rainfall, vivid lightning, and gusty downdraft winds. Storms should decrease in coverage and intensity during the overnight hours.

Another hot day is on tap for Tuesday. However, the humidity will begin to decrease due to lower dew point temperatures, as well as lower Precipitable Water values. It’ll still be hot, but this will make it a hair less muggy. No rainfall is expected at this time as well, so not a terrible forecast, right?

We begin to see the first signs of that ridge beginning to break down on Wednesday morning. The ridge will basically amplify to the west of the region, leading to northwesterly flow across much of the Ohio Valley. This will provide some slight relief from the heat, as well as a chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms once again. Highs will likely be below 90 for the first time in over a week!

Long Term Outlook

Okay, so this isn’t quite a “long” term outlook, this is more of a “rest of the week” outlook, mainly because I want to be the bearer of good news! A trough is expected to develop across the Ohio Valley, leading to at or below normal temperatures across the region on Friday and Saturday!

That should wrap up this forecast. Be sure to follow @WxOrNotBG and @WKUweather for the latest Bowling Green weather information. Have a great day!
