“Groundhog Day” in August Bowling Green Weather

Real-Time Bowling Green Weather Radar

Yesterday’s Weather

Ahh, another day that really avoided storms across the region. The main forcing again lay to our west, so guess where the rain and storms were? To our west! Highs made it into the lower 90s across the region, with very little precip in BG.

Discussion

Ahh, don’t we just love summer time? I have forecasted storms so much this summer, I feel like I’m in the movie, “Groundhog Day”.

I am not a fan, as we’ll get days like today that are just kinda boring forecasts. I would do a GIF forecast, but there are some important things to convey today. So, as has been mentioned the past several days, there is a weak frontal boundary to our northwest, and it is finally about to move south and eastward.

What does this mean? Showers and thunderstorms this afternoon! As the front approaches a warm and humid airmass this afternoon, thunderstorms should blossom and become widespread.

While the threat for severe weather isn’t too high, the SPC does have us outlined within a Marginal Risk for severe thunderstorms. The highest threats from these storms will be heavy rainfall, lightning and damaging winds.

Highs today will be up and in the mid 80s before the storms form. Overnight, look for partly cloudy skies, with lows in the lower 70s.

Wednesday will be fairly similar, but I don’t see thunderstorms being as widespread across the region. The main forcing that we are seeing move through our region currently should be near us, or just to our east tomorrow. This should lead to storms being more isolated across the region.

Highs tomorrow should only end up in the lower 80s, and I mean, how great does that sound?

Overnight tomorrow night, skies will be partly cloudy, with lows in the lower 70s. On Thursday, the weather will be fairly nice again!

We’ll be behind the front on Thursday, and with lower PWAT values, the moisture content in the atmosphere will be lower, yielding a less unstable atmosphere. This will help to keep pop up storms during the afternoon hours under control. Highs should end up in the mid and upper 80s.

Extended Outlook

The 6-10 day outlook from the CPC is about as nice as I have seen it in a long time. After a stronger cold front moves through this weekend, a cooler and drier airmass looks to move into the region.
