Forecast Discussion

Oh boy, is this a complicated forecast. Every day in this forecast has some uncertainty with it so bear with me as we step through the forecast.

Today, I think we’ll likely see a few showers and thunderstorms across the region. This is due to an approaching trough from the west, as well as a “plume” of weak vorticity moving into portions of eastern Kentucky this afternoon. However, mesoscale models fail to produce rainfall across the region this afternoon, which complicates the forecast a bit and makes me less confident that storms will form.

In any case, showers and thunderstorms should decrease across the region during the overnight hours due to the lack of diurnal heating.

Tuesday is a complicated forecast because temperatures are dependent upon rainfall. As the trough continues to move closer to the region, a better chance of rainfall follows. If rainfall breaks out earlier in the day, which is my thought, then high temperatures will likely be limited to the mid 80s. However, if showers wait to form until the afternoon, highs could squeak into the upper 80s.

Pretty much me at this point

Severe storms may also be present on Tuesday. However, these should remain fairly isolated. Damaging wind will be the main concern, along with locally heavy rain. The Storm Prediction Center has placed portions of the region in a “Marginal” risk for severe weather.

Thunderstorms may continue during the overnight hours with lows in the low 70s across the region. The front may stall across the region, leading to heavy rain. Watch for localized flash flooding during this time. The Weather Prediction Center has also placed the region in a “Marginal” risk of flash flooding.

Showers and thunderstorms will likely continue during the morning hours on Wednesday. The front should begin to make it’s final push through the region during the morning hours. Once the front passes, expect showers and thunderstorms to diminish. However, cloud cover may keep temperatures quite cool, in the lower 80s.

A few isolated showers may form during the overnight hours, however these should remain widely scattered in nature. Temperatures will fall to around 70°.

Long Term Outlook

A pretty big cool down is expected across the region during the next couple of weeks. Above normal precipitation can also be expected at this time. However, I think this is a fair trade if we don’t have to deal with the oppressive heat!

That should wrap up this forecast. Be sure to follow @WxOrNotBG for the latest Bowling Green weather information. Have a great day!
