Forecast Discussion

A very moist, humid air mass is in place across the region this morning, and will continue to stay in place for much of the week. This will lead to daily thunderstorm chances, as well as hot conditions toward the middle of the week.

This morning, a large complex of thunderstorms is located across Missouri. this complex of thunderstorms is moving in our general direction. The question is whether or not this holds together and impacts Bowling Green. Regardless, an area of positive vorticity advection is moving into the region associated with the complex. This, combined with the potential for the complex to lay out boundaries, will likely cause some thunderstorms in the noon and afternoon time frames.

With the moist air mass in place, categorized by dew points in the 70s this morning, heavy rainfall will be a concern with any storms that develop or move into the region. Vivid lightning and gusty winds will also be possible.

An upper level ridge will likely continue to build on Tuesday and Wednesday. This means that the upper level wind pattern will become relatively mundane and unimportant for the most part. However, daily thunderstorm chances will remain in place across the region due to high instability values each day. Storms should remain fairly isolated in coverage on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Conditions will get hotter as we move to the middle of the week. Wednesday will be the hottest day thus far for the month of August, as we’ll likely see temperatures in the low 90s across the region. Combine this with the humidity in place, and temperatures will feel more like the low 100s. Be sure to stay hydrated if you’re outdoors!

Long Term Outlook

This long term outlook is actually not that very long term. I want to talk about the rest of the work week, because I feel like some of this heat is being underplayed across the area. Highs on Thursday and Friday will likely get into the mid 90s. That means some heat indices may reach the mid 100s during that time period, which is dangerous heat. Isolated storm chances will also continue through the rest of the week.

That should wrap up this forecast. Be sure to follow @WxOrNotBG for the latest Bowling Green weather information. Have a great day!
