It rained. Again. What a joy! Insult to injury is always nice. We had been forecasting rain for Thursday for a few days, so I am very happy that it panned out as well as it did, and that highs hit the 90°F mark before the rainfall began.

Luckily, flash flooding issues weren’t widespread, and the rain moved through relatively quickly. That helped.

Forecast Summary

Today: Partly cloudy, with scattered storms this afternoon. A few may be strong. Highs around 90°F. Overnight, skies should clear out, with lows falling to around 71°F.

We are about to move into one of the more summer-like patterns of the summer.

Today, we will be seeing a weak cold front propagate southeastward toward and through the region, giving us a trigger for thunderstorms this afternoon. We’ve got plentiful moisture in place across the region, as dewpoints are forecast to stay in the upper 60s and lower 70s.

As surface heating commences late this morning and into this afternoon, we are likely to see highs end up right around 90°F. Combine this with the moisture in the atmosphere, and we are likely to see high amounts of instability yielded.

Along the aforementioned weak front, we will likely see thunderstorms form and move southward towards the region. Some of these could be strong, producing heavy rainfall and strong winds. The SPC has us outlined in a Marginal Risk for severe thunderstorms.

Be weather alert heading into the afternoon, and we’ll keep you all updated as needed. Overnight, look for skies to clear with lows falling into the lower 70s.

Tomorrow will probably be the nicest day of the weekend overall. Go for a swim, or something outside!

A new airmass will roll into the region behind the cold front, dropping dewpoints and temperatures relatively. This combination will be really nice, and will be perfect to do things outdoors. Highs will end up in the upper 80s, and partly cloudy skies are the worst we’ll see out of the day.

Overnight, look for partly cloudy skies, with lows in the upper 60s. On Sunday, it is legitimately looking hot.

A strong, and fairly well advertised ridge will be established across the south-central US, and will be establishing itself eastward. The eastward extent of this is currently up for debate, but the models are painting Sunday as one of the more intense heat days we have had in a while. Look for highs to end up in the mid 90s, with dewpoints in the low to mid 70s.

This combination will be intense, and will likely require you to take your time outside. If going outside, be mindful of the amount of time spent out there, and be sure to drink plenty of fluids. Overnight on Sunday, look for partly cloudy skies and a low chance at isolated storms. Lows in the mid 70s.

Extended Outlook

Well, as I mentioned before, the eastward extent of the ridge is still up for debate, and that will have a large impact on our weather. If we end up on the eastern fringe of the ridge, there is a good likelihood that we multiple complexes of thunderstorms that move through the region. If the ridge is established over us, we will likely see miserable heat. I don’t want either; I want Fall at this point. The former is looking a but more likely, but we’ll have to see. The CPC has above average temperatures, and below average precip for the next 6-10 days.
