Forecast Discussion
A quick look at radar this morning shows nothing in the way of precipitation. However, a roost ring did make an appearance. A “roost ring” is a ring that appears on radar from a flock of birds taking flight in the early morning hours.

Conditions today are already steamy. Dew point temperatures are in the 70s this morning, which will quickly destabilize the atmosphere ahead of an advancing cold front. CAPE values will rise to around 3-4,000 Joules, which is indicative of strong to severe storms. The limiting factor today will be the lack of shear in place across the region.

Nevertheless, the Storm Prediction Center has placed our region in a “slight” risk of severe storms. Flash flooding will be another concern as Precipitable Water values will once again approach 2″ across the region. This, combined with slow movement of storms, may lead to some localized flash flooding across the region. So, gusty winds, vivid lightning, and flash flooding are the main concerns today.
Unfortunately, the aforementioned front will stall across the region in the overnight hours and into tomorrow, meaning thunderstorms and showers will once again be possible tomorrow. However, instability is expected to remain much lower, so severe weather is not anticipated at this time. Due to cloud cover and rain, the high temperature may be a few degrees lower than today.
With the aid of a strong thunderstorm complex, the cold front might finally push through the region on Saturday. This will bring a chance of morning showers and thunderstorms with it. However, it should bring some slightly cooler temperatures for the weekend, so I won’t complain!
Extended Outlook
With the ridge expected to continue to build next week, the extended outlook doesn’t look so great. A big ol’ ridge in the summer means hot and dry…and trust me, a big ol’ ridge develops.
That should wrap up this forecast. Be sure to follow @WxOrNotBG for the latest Bowling Green weather information. Have a great day!
