Yesterday’s Weather

Yesterday was absolutely a bust on my part! Yeah!

I got the rainfall and thunderstorms portion right in the morning, but skies cleared quicker than I anticipated, and so my high temperature busted by 6 degrees. A poor forecast on my part.

I am not excited about that in honestly any way, shape or form. Today is already starting off in the mid and upper 70s, with dewpoints in the 70s, too.

This is likely to lead to one of the more miserable days outside in a while. I am anticipating temperatures to jump into the mid 90s by this afternoon, and dewpoints don’t look to change too much this afternoon either.

If you are doing outdoor activities, you’ll wanna be careful and be sure to drink plenty of fluids as you do things outdoors. Overnight, look for partly cloudy skies to remain, with lows falling into the mid 70s.

During the day tomorrow, the atmospheric flow gets a bit more interesting. A weak 500 mb trough will be propagating into the region, and several vort maxes will be propagating into the region between Thursday and Friday. During the day tomorrow, these will lead to evening thunderstorms forming across the region.

Highs will end up around 90°F, and dewpoints will be high again, making things miserable outside.

Overnight, look for scattered storms to exit, and partly cloudy skies to form. Lows in the low to mid 70s.

Friday looks pretty similar to Thursday, but I think that storms will be a bit more widespread. The vort max looks to be associated with a more definable mid and low level shortwave trough, and this will spark off afternoon storms again.

With both Thursday and Friday, the main threats with the storms will be heavy rain and lightning, and maybe an isolated strong wind gust or two. Highs will end up in the upper 80s.

Overnight, look for skies to clear out, and lows to end up in the upper 60s.

Extended Outlook

It is looking hot, hot, hot in the long range, as the models are beginning to lock in on a strong ridge developing across the central US at the very least. Depending on where the highest heights set up across the midwest, we may see a couple days of very intense heat. If we can stay on the fringe, we may see move rounds of heavy rainfall. I don’t know which one I want less.
