Discussion

First of all, Happy Father’s Day!

The pattern over the next few days, especially after Monday, looks fascinating. I am excited about forecasting it, and the challenges that will likely accompany the forecasting of the systems. So lets dive into it. For today, the ridge that has enforced its will on the states to our west with incredibly high temps will budge only a little, keeping us on its eastern edge.

This will help us avoid hotter temps, but temps will still remain warmer. As you’re waking up this morning, you’ll likely see some clouds out there, as isolated showers are moving through. However, don’t expect this to last, as clouds should break up into partly cloudy skies, allowing for temps to rise into the upper 80s.

Overnight tonight, look for mostly clear skies as well, with lows in the upper 60s. Tomorrow looks not-so-interesting as well.

We’ll be watching a strong trough begin to swing our way from the northern plains, but it won’t be influencing out weather during the day on Monday. Expect mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies, with highs getting up into the lower 90s.

Overnight, we’ll begin to become influence by the trough, as partly cloudy skies develop, with isolated storms possible late. Lows in the lower 70s.

Tuesday is when the week starts to get interesting. Fairly similar in set up to Thursday, a cold front will be dragging southeastward throughout the day, and much of the model guidance is pointing the atmosphere becoming very unstable across the region.

With good amounts of shear developing, expect thunderstorms to develop along the cold front, with some storms becoming severe. Because of this, the SPC has us within a Marginal Risk for Tuesday. Highs will reach into the upper 80s.

Overnight, partly cloudy skies should remain, with lows falling into the lower 70s.

Extended Outlook

The extended looks interesting as well. Wednesday through Friday actually look fairly stormy, as the aforementioned front that will be in the region Tuesday should stall within the region, and will likely be a zone for thunderstorm development. Additionally, a strong shortwave could create a more organized severe weather threat on Wednesday.
