You can imagine that I am up for the challenge. So, today looks to have an atmosphere favorable for severe weather. A shortwave trough will be moving towards us throughout the day, but will be weakening as it moves towards us throughout the day.

In association with this will be decaying showers and storms from last night to our west. This is one of the reasons this forecast is as complicated as it is. The way the morning rainfall behaves, or if it is even there, is one of the biggest questions. If we can get the rain, it will lay out boundaries that will be areas for thunderstorms to develop along in the afternoon hours. However, if the rain and clouds are around too long, it will decrease our instability for thunderstorms in the afternoon.

It is a complicated forecast that requires a lot of tweaking throughout the day. At this time, many of the models do have clouds thinning and out temperatures and dewpoints warming up enough to create a fairly unstable environment. This will be combined with increasingly good wind shear through the evening to create an environment favorable for severe storms. Look for highs to hit the upper 70s by the mid afternoon.

Because of this, the SPC has outlined us in a slight risk for severe thunderstorms for today, with hail and damaging winds being the main threats.

Overnight, look for lows to fall into the mid and upper 60s. This is a fluid situation, so please keep up with the latest information throughout the day.

Tomorrow: Partly to mostly cloud, with a chance of storms and warm. Highs around 83°F. Wed. night: Mostly cloudy, with showers and storms possible. Lows around 65°F.

Tomorrow’s forecast looks about as weird as today’s.

Tomorrow morning will likely be mostly sunny, as a ridge moves into the region. However, throughout the day, there looks as if there could be a weak shortwave move just to our north, sparking off some isolated storms across the region.

Temperatures should rise up into the mid 80s under partly to mostly cloudy skies. Overnight, skies should remain cloudy, with showers and storms possible. Lows will fall into the mid 60s.

Thursday: Partly cloudy, with thunderstorms possible. Highs around 85ºF. Thur. night: Clearing skies, with lows falling to around 59°F.

Another trough will be moving into the region by Thursday, creating for us another round of rain and storms!

This has been a pretty good week for forecasting, if I do say so myself! Highs before it will rise into the mid 80s, creating an unstable atmosphere as a cold front marches into the region. This will create an atmosphere ready for some storms.

I’m not sold on a severe threat just yet, but there is the potential to be another risk on Thursday, so keep that in mind. Overnight, skies will clear and temps will fall into the mid to upper 50s.

Well, that is all I have! Be sure to follow @WxOrNotBG for the latest on the severe weather threat today, as it will be a fluidly changing threat. Take care and be safe!
