Good afternoon everyone. Much of south central Kentucky has experienced mostly clear skies throughout much of the day. Temperatures as of 3 PM across the region have risen to around 80°F. This is aiding in the building of instability to the west of the region along the cold front.

Showers and thunderstorms may form along the cold front as it continues to move to the east. Strong wind shear is present along and ahead of the front. This, combined with instability, could lead to some isolated strong to severe thunderstorms with damaging wind being the main threat. Low level shear also supports a very small, nonzero tornado threat. Small hail can’t be ruled out in some of the stronger storms as well. The Storm Prediction Center has placed our region in a “marginal” risk of severe weather this evening.
