Summer-Like Weather for the Start of Fall

Real-time Bowling Green weather radar:

Today, 9/23 – Sunny & Nice – High 84˚ / Tonight – Mostly Clear – Low 58˚

Good morning, Bowling Green and happy first day of fall!! That’s right. Today is the autumnal equinox, marking the first day of fall and one of two days of the year in which we have equal (give or take) hours of day and night!

However, this forecast will not be very suitable to the common conception of fall… No scarves, hoodies, or pumpkin spice lattes necessary – unless you like that kind of thing. Shorts and t-shirts are still perfectly acceptable for the time being, with 80s continuing on for both the short and long-term forecast.

Today will be much of what we have seen recently: high pressure, sunny skies, and temperatures in the 80s. Not a bad forecast as conditions will be quite comfortable, but I know some people are becoming restless for the coming of fall-like weather. Because of the stagnation of this weather pattern, today’s high will be just about the same as yesterday’s recorded high of 84°.

Temperatures tonight will drop into the upper-50s under mostly clear skies.

Thursday, 9/24 – Mostly Sunny – High 86˚ / Thursday Night – Mostly Clear – Low 60˚

The second day of fall looks quite similar to the first day of fall, with the exception of the onset of a few clouds.

With upper-level ridging from the west and high pressure at the surface, this forecast lacks in the excitement category. Of course, remember this is coming from a meteorological perspective and not necessarily a “Do I like this kind of weather?” perspective.

Upper-50s in the morning will give way to highs in the mid-80s for Bowling Green on Thursday. Our climatological averages for this time of year are 80° for the high and 55° for the low. With the subtle increase in temperatures, we’ll be moving more and more away from this normal over the forecast period.

Lows tonight will drop into the upper-50s to around 60° under partly cloudy skies.

Friday 9/25 – Mostly Sunny – High 83˚ / Friday Night – Mostly Clear – Low 60˚

Friday? Same. This monotonous pattern looks to stick around for the next few days. Friday will remain dry, but a bit more cloud cover may keep temperatures a few degrees cooler than Wednesday and Thursday.

Overall, highs in the low to mid-80s and lows in the upper-50s to around 60° can be applied to this forecast period, this weekend, and the beginning of next week. The main fluctuation will be an increase in cloud cover moving into this weekend.
