Marginal Risk of Severe Storms This Afternoon

Marginal Risk of Severe Storms just East of Bowling Green

Showers and thunderstorms are beginning to pop up just to the west of Bowling Green around noon. These showers and storms will be moving into a slightly better environment over Bowling Green and points eastward.

Current mesoanalysis indicates that some instability is nosing into the region from the south. This, collocated with shear across much of western Kentucky could lead to a rogue strong to severe thunderstorm throughout the rest of the afternoon.

Shear Analysis

The main threat with the thunderstorms will be heavy rain and locally strong winds. Widespread severe weather is not expected. However, a rogue strong to severe thunderstorm can’t be ruled out along and east of I-65.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed the area I mentioned above in a “marginal” risk for severe thunderstorms through the rest of the afternoon. The HRRR model thinks we see some action between 2-4 PM.
