Surface Analysis valid 4pm Friday (NOAA)

Good Morning BG! Good news for all of you that are sick of the heat – relief is on the way! An approaching cold front will push this hot, humid, miserable air out of the way, at least for a little while. I’m just as excited as you are!

The moisture packed, unstable airmass we have in place along and ahead of the cold front could be a factor in possible severe weather this afternoon and evening. Timing for the strongest storms looks to be between mid afternoon and late evening.  The HRRR simulated radar below is valid for 5pm this afternoon:

It’s important to note that the NAM doesn’t exactly agree with the HRRR, as it does not bring the stout storms thru until closer to 8-9pm tonight. The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded all of south central Kentucky to an Enhanced Risk for severe storms this afternoon & evening:

Main threats with these storms will be damaging straight-line winds, large hail and torrential rainfall.  The chance at a stray tornado spin-up or two will also be on the table.  Please stay weather aware as this system evolves as the day progresses.  We’ll be keeping you updated with the latest real-time info @WxOrNotBG.

Sat 6/27 –  Iso’d AM Showers, clearing thru afternoon – High 77˚ / Saturday Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 60˚

I am SO excited for Saturday. Temperatures may not even be able to make it to 80 degrees across south central Kentucky. After the cold front pushes south, skies will begin to clear throughout the day. Saturday afternoon should be amazing!

Surface Temps valid 4pm Saturday (owxdata.com)

High pressure will move in behind the cold front and make for a slow warm-up over the next few days. High temperatures will remain in the low to mid 80s thru this period. Excuse me while I do my happy dance…

Sunday 6/28– Mostly Sunny – High 80˚ / Sunday Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 66˚

And if you thought Saturday was nice….

High pressure will be positioned over the area giving us sunshine and calm conditions for Sunday. High temperatures should remain around 80 degrees and Sunday night will be a bit chillier than what we’ve been used to with lows in the mid 60s. You couldn’t ask for a better forecast.
