Good afternoon, yesterday’s rainy weather has ended across southern Kentucky and the eastern half of the country is now centered underneath an upper-level trough. The trough will keep a cooler air mass locked in place and high temperatures will hold in the middle to upper 40s across the region this afternoon.
Cloud cover is increasing this afternoon as a weak shortwave rotates through the upper-level trough. The shortwave will provide enough lift to result in some isolated rain showers across the state this afternoon. Not everyone will see rainfall, but any showers will be short-lived with light precipitation. Check out what the lates run of the 4km NAM thinks the radar will look like this afternoon:
The rain showers will be very short lived and we can expect precipitation to exit the state around sunset. We can’t rule out a brief flurry before precipitation ends as temperatures tumble this evening. Skies will quickly clear after midnight with low temperatures dropping into the lower to middle 20s under mostly clear skies.
Saturday – Mostly Sunny; Cool – High 44˚ / Sat Night – Mostly Clear – Low 25˚
The region will still be under a upper-level trough tomorrow and another chilly day is expected. Fortunately, surface high pressure will move from the Great Lakes region to the Ohio Valley which will keep skies mostly clear. If you can brave the chilly temperatures, tomorrow’s weather will be downright beautiful.
Temperatures will drop into the 20s once again on Sunday night under mostly clear skies.
Sunday – Warmer; Increasing Clouds – High 58˚ / Sun Night – Sct’d Showers – Low 41˚
Warmer temperatures will overspread Kentucky on Sunday as we can expect warm air advection to occur ahead of an area of low pressure far to our north. High temperatures will reach the 50s during the afternoon but as this low slides east, expect clouds to increase throughout the afternoon.
By Sunday night, a cold front associated with this low will clip Kentucky. Even though we will be on the southern edge of this cold front, the front will cause enough lift to promote scattered rain showers across southern Kentucky overnight. At this time, precipitation looks light with rainfall accumulations less than 0.25″
