Tornado Forecasting Workshop with Rich Thompson

An amazing series has been put together by theĀ University of Oklahoma’s Student Chapter of the American Meteorology Society (OUSCAMS). OUSCAMS has had Lead Forecaster Rich Thompson of the Storm Prediction Center come to the National Weather Center for a weekly series discussing tornado forecasting.

I will say the tornado forecasting workshop is not your normal “spotter class” put together by the National Weather Service. This goes into details of Synoptic scale and Mesoscale meteorological ingredients and setups that are conducive for severe weather and tornadoes. This is good for anyone who wants to learn more about forecasting severe weather, whether they be weather enthusiasts, or seasoned meteorologists.

I always say that you can never stop learning in the field of meteorology, and this is an opportunity to continue that education if you are an accredited meteorologist. You will find the lectures below in order. Bookmark this page, because the lectures are long and chances are you won’t be able to finish them in one setting. Enjoy!
