All These Posts About Rain

This Afternoon – Cloudy; Iso’d Showers – High 58˚ / Tonight – Rain Likely – Low 44˚

Normally, I wouldn’t tell anyone to get out and enjoy cloudy, dreary conditions.  However, with absurdly damp conditions on the way, it seems necessary.  So… get outside and soak in those clouds.

Temperatures topping out near 60˚ this afternoon will be joined by light, southerly winds.  These winds are not only increasing temp values across south central Kentucky, but moisture parameters as well.

Light rain is expected to move into the southern tier of the area, along the Tennessee border, around sunset.  This rain will gradually shift northeast as it increases in both coverage and intensity, engulfing the entire region by 8-10pm.  The HRRR Simulated radar model loops every hour from 10pm – 3am tonight.  It should give you a better idea of how this system will behave:

Tue 3/10 – Rain Likely – High 60˚ / Tue Night – Rain Likely – Low 48˚

An area of low pressure responsible for the wet stuff will surge northeast over the area on Tuesday, keeping widespread rain showers in the forecast.  Our atmosphere will be packed full of moisture, with precipitable water values exceeding 1″ during the afternoon.  This is when the heaviest rain is expected:

For those of you scratching your head, it means that it’s going to rain tomorrow.  Like, rain a lot.  Total amounts from this first disturbance will range between 1-2″.  With the heavy precip we’ve experienced over the past few weeks, flood concerns look to rear their ugly head once again…

…which reminds me, be smarter than the person above.

Wed 3/11 – Scat’d Rain Showers – High 62˚ / Wed Night – Scat’d Rain Showers – Low 47˚

Hit and miss rain showers will continue on Wednesday, as we sit in between a departing system to our northeast, and another system approaching from the southwest.

Rain chances will continue to linger through the remainder of the week, with the heaviest precipitation falling tonight  Thursday into Friday.  Total precipitation for this time frame will range between 3-5″.  This is supported by the QPF model output below, valid through Saturday evening:

Please keep in mind that flooding problems will be probable this week, especially as we approach the weekend.  Don’t attempt to cross water-covered roadways.  Well, unless you have a contraption like this:
