Another Shot Of Frigid Air

This Afternoon – Increasing Clouds; Flying Flurries – High 42˚ / Tonight – Cloudy – Low 17˚

Cloud cover has had a torrid time filtering into the area today, which is good news, temperature wise.  Highs have already topped 40˚!  It’s not been the greatest news for us here at Wx Or Not, however, considering our high temperature forecast was in the lower 30s.  Can you say…

…BUSTED!?!

If you’re a regular reader, you know that when we get the forecast wrong, we always own up to it.  Today is no different.  Plentiful amounts of sunshine and the cold front passing to our south later than expected is the cause for the mercury climbing significantly higher than forecast this morning.

Anyway… a mix of sun and clouds will be joined by highs in the low 40s this afternoon, with clouds increasing as we get closer to sunset.  Hit and miss snow showers/flurries will be possible from late afternoon through the early part of the night.

Temps will soon begin to slip thanks to the passing of a moisture-deprived cold front.  Overnight lows will bottom out around 17˚.  Values should tumble at/below freezing by 5-6pm.  Combine this with stray, hit & miss snow showers, and there could be a few slick spots on the evening commute.  Drive carefully.

As far as accumulations are concerned…little to nothing is expected.  A few of us may receive a quick dusting, at best.

Friday 2/27 – Partly Sunny; Cold – High 27° / Fri Night – Cloudier – Low 15°

High pressure will situate right over south central Kentucky on Friday. We’ll feel the effect of its origin in Canada, as temps remain well below freezing for the entire day. A mix of sun and clouds can be expected, however, the sun won’t provide much comfort, as afternoon highs only top out ~25°.  The temperature model below is valid for 3pm Friday, and aligns well with the forecast.

Friday night will bring a few more clouds into the region which will help prevent temperatures from really bottoming out. However, bundle up if you’re out and about because lows will still drop into the mid teens.

Saturday 2/28 – Partly Cloudy – High 37° / Sat Night – Cloudy – Low 30°

A warming trend looks to begin Saturday, thanks to the area of high pressure tracking east of the area. This will cause surface flow to turn southerly. Under partly cloudy skies, high temps should top out around 37°. Hey, that’s better than what we’ve had.

Saturday night, cloud cover will increase, which will be accompanied by a mild low ~30°, thanks to the cloud cover.

Clouds will become more abundant on Sunday, as temps catapult to the upper 40s.  This will be in response to our next weather maker that looks to bring showers and storms to the area Sunday night – Tuesday. Nothing is written in stone, but highs early next week look to flirt with 60˚.  It looks as though signs of spring may be on the horizon…
