Holy COLD On The Way

This Afternoon – Sunny & Splendid – High 51˚ / Tonight – Iso’d Snow Showers – Low 21˚

6pm 44˚ – 9pm 39˚ – 12am 32˚ – 3am 27˚ – 6am 21˚

A cold front is currently working across the region.  This boundary will usher in a much colder air mass as it slides to our east, which we’ll feel in the form of brisk, northwesterly winds.

The surface map provided below is valid for 4pm this afternoon, and illustrates the much colder air headed our way:

Another thing we’ll have to keep an eye on tonight is the potential for isolated snow showers.  The majority of activity should remain northeast of the region, however, a few slick spots will be possible late tonight into Thursday morning as a result.

Thu 2/12 – Blustery & Cold – High 25˚ / Thu Night – Partly Cloudy – Low

Thursday will be the exact opposite of what we’ve experienced today.  Blustery, cold, frigid, raw, terrible, nope, nodda.  All of these terms are appropriate when describing tomorrow’s weather conditions.  Northwesterly flow will continue to punish south central Kentucky, hurling winds of 20 to 30 mph at us.

(Thursday Dramatization)

The stout winds and cloud cover will work as a team, limiting high temperatures to the mid 20s; wind chill values will be in the single digits for much of the day.

As if we didn’t already have it bad enough, light on/off snow showers will be possible until midday.  Little to nothing will be able to accumulate, given the stout winds and light nature of any precip that falls.  The good news?

…you’ll still be warmer than this guy.

Thursday night will be ridiculous, with lows tumbling to the single digits under clear skies.

Fri 2/13 – Partly Sunny & Cold – High 32˚ / Fri Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 24˚

High pressure will work into the region, allowing for at least a few rays of sunshine to filter in.  The bad news is that flow will continue out of the northwest, suppressing highs to the lower 30s.

Our next snow chance looks to arrive with the passing of an Arctic front Saturday night into Sunday.  This disturbance doesn’t look like anything significant, however, temperatures on the other hand will be bitterly cold.  The latest guidance continues to hold highs in the low 20s on Sunday.

That will wrap up the Wednesday afternoon update.  As always, stay in touch with @WxOrNotBG & @WarrenCountyWx on twitter for the latest real-time weather information.
