Snow Chances…Again

Real-time Bowling Green weather radar:

This Afternoon – Cloudy; Iso’d snow showers – High 32˚ / Tonight – Scat’d Snow Showers – Low 29˚

The start of our Monday has been dreary and cold, thanks to plentiful cloud cover and winds howling at 10 to 20 mph out of the northwest.  This will continue through the afternoon, with a light wintry mix/snow possible by this evening.  Temperature values have been running 3-5˚ below guidance so far today, meaning we could be looking at travel concerns on the evening commute.  If you’re traveling this evening – mid morning Tuesday, please do so with caution.

Our scattered snow chances can be credited to a low pressure clipper system that will dive southeast across the region this evening and overnight:

The following HRRR simulated radar model loops every hour from 4pm – 10pm tonight.  It favors the idea of snow showers impacting south central Kentucky.  It should give you a better idea of how this system will handle the environment:

Another round of the white stuff looks to move in after midnight, thanks to another piece of energy sweeping through the region.  Minor accumulations will be possible with this disturbance.  Given the parameters, a sporadic dusting to 1″ seems reasonable.  If you’re lucky, you may squeeze out a bit more.  2″ seems like a long shot, but not out of the question.

I’ll say it again… with scattered snow showers sticking around through the early morning hours of our Tuesday, it would be wise to exercise caution if you’re traveling during this time.  Do not focus on amounts, focus on impacts instead.  NWS Louisville has issued a travelers advisory for the entire viewing area through Tuesday morning.

Don’t be that person…

Tue 1/27 – Iso’d AM Rain/Snow Showers – High 43˚ / Tue Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 22˚

Lingering snow showers will stick around through the early part of our Tuesday, and we can thank the leftovers of tonight’s disturbance for it.  Temperatures will be slightly warmer tomorrow, so any precipitation that may starts out as snow is expected to change over to a light mix of rain and snow during the afternoon. No accumulations are expected.

Weak upper-level ridging will increase tomorrow night which will be enough to push clouds out of our area. Low temperatures will fall into the lower to middle 20s under mostly clear skies.

Wed 1/28 – Sunny – High 45˚ / Wed Night – Increasing Clouds – Low 32˚

Sunshine will finally reappear on Wednesday, thanks to surface high pressure near the region.  To our west, a weak area of low pressure will begin to form and southern Kentucky will experience warm air advection ahead of the low.  Temperatures will reach the middle 40s making for a pleasant day.

Cloud cover will begin to increase again on Wednesday night as low pressure moves closer to the area.  A few isolated showers will be possible after midnight and at this time model guidance is suggesting it will be too warm for any wintry weather.
