Saturday Morning Weather Update

Real-time Bowling Green Weather Radar:

 Saturday 1/24 – Mostly Sunny – High 46º / Sat Night – Mostly Clear – Low 33º

6am 25˚ – 9am 29˚ – 12pm 38˚ – 3pm 48˚ –6pm 39˚

After a wintry overnight period, precipitation has finally come to an end thanks to a low pressure system moving off to the northeast. Behind this low, we can expect to see calm weather across southern Kentucky today.

Clouds are rapidly pushing east and skies will become mostly clear by later this morning as southwesterly surface winds aid temperatures in rising to the middle 40s this afternoon. These temperatures combined with the sunshine will be very effective in melting any snow cover on the ground.

Mostly clear skies will persist overnight as low temperatures are expected to fall into the lower 30s. Rural locations that still have snow cover on the ground may see temperatures drops into the upper 20s.

Sunday 1/25 – Isolated Showers – High 51º / Sun Night – Isolated Rain & Snow Showers – Low 32º

An active weather pattern will resume by tomorrow as surface low pressure slides from the northern Plains into Kentucky by tomorrow afternoon. This low will bring cloud cover and precipitation chances to the region tomorrow.

Precipitation will be very hit or miss but we can certainly expect isolated rain showers across the region tomorrow. Rainfall totals should remain below 0.1″.

By tomorrow night, it will a be a race between the last of the precipitation and the cold air moving in quickly behind the low. If the cold air can catch up to the back edge of precipitation we can  expect some of those rain showers to turn to snow for a brief period with no accumulations expected at this time. Otherwise, expect cloudy skies with lows reaching the freezing mark tomorrow night.

Monday 1/26 – Mostly Cloudy – High 38º / Mon Night – Isolated Snow Showers – Low 30º

Colder and calmer weather will resume to start the work week as an upper-level ridge will begin to build over the eastern U.S. Temperatures are only expected to top out in the upper 30s on Monday under mostly cloudy skies.

The chance for a few isolated snow showers (with no accumulations) is present on Monday night as some precipitation looks to rotate around the edge of the ridge. Otherwise, expect mostly cloudy skies with lows around 30º.

Model guidance continues to suggest that our region will continue to see a few precipitation chances throughout the work week. It will be interesting to see if we can get into an active weather pattern heading into February.
