Light Snow Possible Today

Real Time Bowling Green Weather Radar:

Today 1/15 – AM Snow Showers Likely; Partly Cloudy Later – High 36° / Tonight – Mostly Clear – Low 24°

**7:45am UPDATE: The National Weather Service has issued a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY until 3pm this afternoon for Warren and surrounding counties**

6am 29˚ – 9am 29˚ – 12pm 34˚ – 3pm 36˚ – 6pm 31˚

Snow showers have already started impacting a few locations in the region this morning. The latest model data has continued to increase the likelihood of snow across southern Kentucky.  School closings are already rolling in, with the majority of those located north of Warren County.

Snow showers will likely continue through the early afternoon. The time frame for the heaviest of snow showers should be between 8 AM and Noon.  The HRRR model below is valid for 10am, and shows a nice swath of snow across much of the area:

For a better idea of how this disturbance may behave this morning, check out the following HRRR model loop.  It loops every hour from 8am – 1pm, displaying the path the frozen precipitation may take.

With ground temperatures already fairly cold, as well as the latest model consistency, I would not be surprised if places in & around Bowling Green received a dusting to perhaps a 1″ of the “white gold” with this system.

Will this much snow fall in your backyard? That all depends on how quickly the air column saturates to allow snow to make it to the ground. The quicker that happens, the more likely we are to see the white stuff actually gather on the ground. Are you feeling…lucky?

Be sure to travel this morning with caution. Remember that bridges and overpasses will become the first to accumulate snow, should we receive it. Drive slowly, and be courteous to other drivers.

Conditions should begin to clear out in the afternoon and evening, allowing temperatures to rise above freezing. Highs will likely top out around 36°.  Any travel impacts should be short lived.

Skies will continue to clear into the overnight hours. You can expect mostly clear skies with a low around 24°.

Friday 1/16 – Clear Skies; Warmer – High 44° / Fri Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 27°

Under northwest flow aloft, high pressure will form at the surface. This high pressure will disperse any moisture in the area. Thus, we’ll be left with clear skies across the region. With those sunny skies, you can expect highs to reach around 44°. Winds will remain fairly calm, though a southwest breeze is not out of the question.

Friday night will bring partly cloudy skies to the region with lows around 27°.

Saturday 1/17 – Partly Cloudy; Breezy – High 51° / Sat Night – Cloudier; Light Rain Possible Late – Low 38°

A trough will begin to take shape to the west of the region on Saturday. This will spread a few clouds into the region. Some breezy southwest winds, on the order of 10-15 mph, will help usher in some more mild temperatures. Highs will finally climb above 50°! Time to work on my parkour!

More clouds will move into the region ahead of the advancing trough. A few light showers may also be possible late Saturday night into early Sunday morning. Breezy conditions will continue with a low around 38°.
