Real-time Bowling Green weather radar:
This Afternoon – Increasing Clouds; Cold – 28˚ / Tonight – Scat’d Snow Showers – Low 23˚
Winds have shifted out of the southwest at 10-15 mph this evening, and this will result in our temperatures climbing into the mid/upper 20s. The “real feel” wind chill is currently hovering in the single digits.
“Wake me when it gets above freezing.”
This southerly shift is in response to an approaching cold front that will sweep west to east across south central Kentucky early Friday. This may result in a few light snow showers late tonight…
Here we go again…
There’s no need to panic. It won’t be much at all, however, whatever falls will stick, thanks to temperature values well below freezing. A sporadic dusting may squeeze out, if anything at all. A word of advice to you snow lovers…don’t get your hopes up.
The latest 4km NAM simulated radar model thinks we’ll see a few areas of snow moving through by 3am:
Fri 1/9 – AM Iso’d Snow Showers; PM Clearing – High 22˚ / Fri Night – Clear – Low 9˚
We’ll keep an outside shot at lingering snow showers until the cold front works east of the area, which should occur by midday. Travel safely if you’re getting out early. There could be a stray slick spot or two.
The bad news is that temperatures will tumble behind the front as the day progresses, with subzero wind chills slate once again by late Friday evening.
*collective reaction*
Look on the bright side…at least the sun should be shining by late afternoon.
Saturday 1/10 – Mostly Clear; Cold – High 26° / Sat Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 21°
High pressure that has been dominating the weather over the region will move a tad to the east of the region. The cyclonic (clockwise) flow of the high pressure will place the entire area under a southerly surface flow. This will help temperatures rebound a few degrees into the…. mid 20s!
Is it sad that I got excited about a “heat wave” with temperatures reaching into the mid 20s?? Conditions should remain mostly clear throughout the day.
Saturday night will bring partly cloudy skies with lows dropping down into the lower 20s once more.
Active weather may occur again in the Bowling Green area on Sunday night through midweek, as a series of disturbances impact the region.
Right now it looks like a soaking, cold rain event is in the making, with the potential for frozen precip rolling in Tue – Wed. Nothing is certain at this moment, but we’ll be keeping a close eye on things.
That’s all I have right now. Be sure to stay connected with @WxOrNotBG and @WarrenCountyWX for the latest Bowling Green weather details. Have a great day!
