Despite the overcast skies for today, the breezy and warmer conditions have been very nice. Temperatures this afternoon have reached the mid, even upper 50’s across southern Kentucky due to a strong southerly flow pumping in warmer, more moist air.

In return, plenty of rain showers will break out this afternoon/evening while impacting much of southern Kentucky.

Overall, tonight’s forecast looks to be a wet one. As the aforementioned warm front lifts northward, showers will develop along this boundary providing the activity we’ll see tonight/early Tuesday morning. Outside of the wet conditions, look for overnight temperatures to only dip into the lower 50’s.

Tue – Mostly Cloudy; Breezy, Showers Likely – High 59º / Tue Night – Mostly Cloudy; Showers Likely – Low 48º

The wet weather will continue as we trek closer to the holiday. Another low pressure will develop across the Tennessee Valley Region before riding northward into the Commonwealth Tuesday afternoon. This will provide another round of the wet stuff as periods of showers will be the case throughout the day.

While conditions remain wet, temperatures will be quite comfortable. For late December, unseasonably warm conditions will prevail as highs reach the upper 50’s for Bowling Green weather. Once again, we can thank the strong southerly flow for the warmth through Tuesday afternoon.

Wed – Mostly Cloudy; Breezy, Showers Likely – High 49º / Wed Night – Partly Cloudy; Few Rain/Snow Showers – Low 34º

By Christmas Eve, the aforementioned cold front will work across southern Kentucky by late morning. Shower activity will push northeastward while impacting central and eastern portions of the state by Wednesday afternoon.  However, winds will begin to shift from the NW as much cooler air filters into the Ohio Valley.

Temperatures are expected to fall throughout the day as colder air settles in. Wrap around moisture will linger across the state as temperatures fall into the 30’s by Wednesday night. This will set up the possibility for a few rain even snow showers to fall as we head into early Christmas Day.

While no accumulation is expected, a few flakes would definitely help the Christmas spirit. Nonetheless, precipitation forecast hint towards a moderate-heavy rainfall event through Thursday morning. 1-2″ will be possible as soggy weather prevails for the first half of the week.
