Good afternoon, hopefully you are enjoying the last few hours of warm weather in southern Kentucky as a cold front is knocking on the door. Check out the latest run of the RAP model illustrating a sharp temperature gradient along the front.

Temperatures were able to reach the middle 60s earlier this afternoon ahead of the front. Unfortunately, the warmer conditions were short-lived as we will see our temperatures drop 20-25 degrees before midnight. Southwesterly winds will shift to the northwest during the overnight hours as cold air rushes in.

Expect to see plentiful cloud cover and even a few isolated showers as the front moves off to our east overnight. Most of the shower activity looks to end before midnight. Otherwise, expect mostly cloudy skies and low temperatures reaching the freezing mark by daybreak Wednesday.

Wednesday 11/12 – Partly Cloudy – High 45° / Wed Night – Mostly Cloudy – Low 27°

The cold air looks to stick around for the remainder of the week as a vigorous upper-level trough settles over much of the country. Surface high pressure will move in behind the front and help keep clouds to a minimum, although this won’t do much to help our temperatures. Expect high temperatures to only reach into the middle 40s with lows falling into the upper 20s.

Thursday 11/13 – Partly Cloudy, Breezy – High 39° / Thur Night – Mostly Clear – Low 22°

Chilly weather will continue on Thursday and temperatures will be even cooler thanks to some northwesterly surface winds. Expect partly cloudy skies and breezy conditions during the afternoon with high temperatures struggling to reach 40º. Don’t let these northerly winds catch you off guard.

Expect skies to remain partly cloudy overnight with lows dipping into the lower 20s. It looks like this will be our coldest night of the season thus far. If you aren’t a fan of the colder weather in southern Kentucky, the bad news is that this tough will remain over our area through the weekend, keeping cooler temperatures in the forecast.
