What has become the worst hiking disaster ever to occur in Nepal, has now killed at least 38 people. Blizzards and avalanches hit the nation earlier this week, which were brought on by Cyclone Hudhud that impacted India a few days prior. Most of the people affected were on the Annapurna route, one of the highest in the world. Over 300 people have been rescued, many thanks to helicopters, but more are reported to be taking shelter in mountain huts (The Weather Channel). Among those killed due to the disaster were Canadian, Indian, Israelis, Slovaks, Poles, and Nepalese hikers. Weather conditions have improved since the snow storms hit the Himalayas, making rescue efforts a bit easier; however, the steep terrain has prevented some rescues from being completed.
