Real Time Bowling Green Weather Radar:

3pm 65º – 6pm 62º – 9pm 58º – 12am 57º – 3am 54º – 6am 51º

Good afternoon, if you’ve been outside at all today you’ll notice that is a dreary day here in southern Kentucky. Temperatures are currently sitting in the lower 60s with overcast skies and spotty rain showers.

All of this rain we have seen yesterday and today is all thanks to a surface low currently situated over western Illinois with a weak cold front draped across central Kentucky. This cold front has passed just east of us, and surface winds will turn to the WSW today. Check out the latest visible satellite imagery where we can actually see clouds swirling around the center of low pressure in a counterclockwise manner.

This surface low is associated with an upper-level trough that is positioned over the eastern U.S. and the influence of this trough will keep showers in our forecast over the next few days, as precipitation wraps around this slow moving surface low.

Expect clouds and isolated showers to stick around this evening and into tonight. Low temperatures will dip into the lower 50s overnight.

Wednesday 10/15 – Cloudy, Isolated Showers – High 61° / Wed Night – Cloudy, Isolated Showers – Low 49°

Temperatures will be cooler tomorrow behind this cold front with high temperatures only reaching the lower 60s. Spotty rain showers will continue throughout the day and overnight as precipitation wraps around the surface low. Check out how the latest NAM model thinks the radar will look from 7 A.M. tomorrow until 7 A.M. Thursday:

Cloud cover will limit our temperatures from dropping too much tomorrow night as our lows will fall to around 50°.

Thursday 10/16 – Isolated Showers Early, Clearing Late – High 63° / Thur Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 48°

This upper-level trough will start to push out of our area on Thursday and this will help those pesky isolated showers move off to the east by midday. It looks like there will be a pretty sharp cutoff between overcast and clear skies, so once these showers move out of the area we should see skies become partly cloudy pretty quickly by Thursday afternoon. Temperatures will still be on the cooler side, as our highs reach the lower to middle 60s.

Zonal flow aloft will take over by Thursday evening and this will set the stage for some calmer weather later this weekend. It’s about time..
