Tuesday Afternoon Weather Update

Real Time Bowling Green Weather Radar:

This Afternoon – Isolated Strong Thunderstorms, Breezy – High 79° / Tonight – Iso’d Showers & Thunderstorms Early, Partly Cloudy – Low 52°

3pm 79º – 6pm 72º – 9pm 67º – 12am 61º – 3am 56º – 6am 52º

Good afternoon, we are currently seeing weather very similar to yesterday as we continue to sit underneath and upper-level trough axis. A few disturbances will be swinging through this trough during the afternoon today which means we should see a few more rounds of storms (some strong) today.

Temperatures and dew points are a few degrees higher than yesterday as we can continue to see southerly winds pump moisture into our area ahead of a weak surface cold front that will pass over us tonight. It could be a bit breezy at times this afternoon with sustained winds of 10-15mph and gusts as high as 25mph.

Favorable wind shear and marginal instability may allow some of these storms to become strong to severe. The main threats will be damaging winds, hail, and the chance for an isolated tornado. In the latest update from the SPC, Bowling Green has a 2% chance of seeing a tornado within 25 miles of a given point:

As the cold front passes over us overnight look for any showers and storms to push off to our southeast by midnight. Cloud cover will then break up overnight and we will see our lows drop into the middle 50s.

Wednesday 10/8 – Partly Cloudy – High 75° / Wed Night – Mostly Cloudy – Low 52°

We will see the upper-level trough axis push a bit to the east tomorrow with surface high pressure building into the region. This means the return of beautiful weather.

Winds will be light and cloud cover will increase overnight as a warm front looks to begin moving towards our area. Low temperatures will dip down into the lower to middle 50s.

Thursday – Scattered Thunderstorms – High 75° / Thur Night – Scattered Thunderstorms – Low 59°

Rain returns to the forecast on Thursday as a warm front looks to edge north over southern Kentucky. The warm front combined with upper-level divergence will provide enough lift to produce scattered showers and thunderstorms across the region. Temperatures will only reach the middle 70s as we will be dealing with quite a bit of cloud cover.

Showers and thunderstorms will continue overnight with lows falling to near 60°. Rainfall totals on Thursday look to be around a half inch. Check out the latest precipitation forecast from the WPC:
