Who would’ve thought the first day of October would feel this warm?! I agree. Ridging aloft across the eastern United States will control our weather for one more day. In return, we’ve seen plenty of sunshine across southern Kentucky as temperatures soared into the upper 80’s.
Some cloud cover will be spotted across the area through the remainder of your afternoon and evening hours. However, I think a bulk of the cloud cover will stick just to our west through tonight. With that said, look for mostly clear and cool conditions as lows drop right around the 60º mark.

Here’s where our weather really takes a turn. Of course, the aforementioned ridging aloft finally weakens and clears the region while a deep upper-level trough digs towards the Ohio Valley. At the surface, a low pressure and its associated cold front will gather some steam across the Central Plains and work eastward through the day.
Our temperatures will be hot as the surface warm front engulfs the Commonwealth. Southerly flow will continue pumping in plenty of warmth and moisture ahead of this front as winds increase around 10-20 mph. A few isolated storms will certainly be possible for the afternoon period, so keep those umbrellas handy just in case you get caught in a quick downpour.
After looking at the latest model data, it seems that the precipitation will push through the area late Thursday night/early Friday morning. Thunderstorms will fire along and ahead of the cold front before tracking eastward across the Ozarks. Decent convective parameters (wind shear ~ 30 knots & instability ~ 5-750 J/kg) will be in place for southern & western Kentucky.
While the severe threat doesn’t look all that impressive, some storms could be on the stronger side through early Friday morning. With decent precipitable water values (near 1.8”), locally heavy rainfall will be a major threat. Bouts of gusty winds and vivid lightning will also be of concern. Overnight lows will dip into the upper 60’s.

We’ll end the work week on a soggy note. Ongoing showers and storms will occur through the morning hours on Friday until early afternoon. Look for most precipitation to finally slide eastward of southern Kentucky by mid-afternoon as things begin to dry out. Total rainfall amounts will generally range from 0.50” – 1.0” for Bowling Green weather. Cooler air will filter across the region as highs struggle the reach the mid 70’s.
The cold front will finally clear the state by Friday night as skies clear out from west to east. Some of the coolest air we’ve had in a while will take over as overnight lows will be chilly. Temperatures will dip into the lower 40’s.
