Thursday’s Bowling Green Weather Update

Real-Time Bowling Green Weather Radar:

This Afternoon – Mostly Sunny; Hot & Humid – High 91º / Tonight – Partly Cloudy; Muggy – Low 71º

3pm 91º – 6pm 86º – 9pm 78º – 12am 75º – 3am 73º – 6am 71º

It’s been a hot and humid day across much of southern Kentucky as highs have soared into the upper 80’s to right around 90 degrees. Factor in ample amounts of sunshine and dewpoint values in the lower 70’s, heat indices have made conditions feel like the mid 90’s this afternoon.

Weak upper level ridging and surface high pressure will continue to dominate our short term weather through tonight. This feature will begin to weaken and work eastward as we turn our attention towards our next rain maker by Friday. Otherwise, look for partly cloudy skies tonight with mild lows in the lower 70’s. Some patchy fog will be possible late tonight/early tomorrow morning.

Fri – Partly Sunny; Iso’d Storms – High 90º / Fri Night – Mostly Cloudy; Sct’d Storms – Low 72º

As we look to put the final touches on another work week, storm chances will begin to ramp up. A cold front will sag southeastward from the northwest bringing rain and storm chances back into the forecast. Low level moisture will be on the rise while precipitable water values make their way back to 1.6” by Friday afternoon.

While the front edges closer to the region, this will provide some lift in an unstable but moist environment. In return, a few isolated showers and storms will develop across the area. However, any activity that does develop is not expected to reach severe limits. Heavy rainfall, gusty winds and dangerous lightning will certainly be possible with any particular storm.

The aforementioned front will work across the state through the overnight hours and into Saturday. This is when we can expect a bulk of the precipitation to slide through Bowling Green. Otherwise, scattered storms will persist through Friday night as lows drop into the lower 70’s.

Sat – Mostly Cloudy; Rain & Storms Likely – High 84º / Sat Night – Mostly Cloudy, Sct’d Storms – Low 64º

We kick of the weekend on a rather wet note. The cold front will be working through the area by Saturday afternoon as widespread rain and storms will be likely during this period. Despite the wet conditions, relief from the temperatures will have finally arrived. Highs will struggle to reach the mid 80’s as those muggy conditions will be tossed out of the window.

Ongoing showers and storms will continue through the afternoon hours before activity tends to wane by Saturday evening. The cold front will work through the region as much drier and cooler air settles in. Overnight lows will drop into the lower 60’s under partly cloudy skies. Precipitation totals continue to hint towards a widespread 0.25” – 0.50” of rainfall.
