Cooler Weather Coming to Bowling Green

Real-Time Bowling Green Weather Radar:

Today 9/3 – Mostly Sunny; Stray Thunderstorm Possible  – High 91º / Thu Night – Partly Cloudy; Mild – Low 69º

6am 69º – 9am 74º – 12pm 85º – 3pm 90º – 6pm 88º

Good morning, if you are out and about this morning you may be seeing some patchy fog across the area. Light winds and plentiful moisture have allowed the temperature to drop down to the dew point in some spots. This allow clouds to form at the surface, otherwise known as fog. The sun will help to burn this fog off in a few hours, but mostly cloudy skies might stick around until noon.

Our persistent upper-level ridge remains situated over the eastern U.S. with an area of surface high pressure over the spine of the Appalachian mountains. This means  another day of heat and humidity  for our area, do what you need to do to stay cool.

Temperatures may be a little slow to rise morning due to cloud cover, but things will warm up quickly this afternoon as skies become partly cloudy. We will see highs in the lower 90s today and all this heat and moisture will increase our instability enough to produce some pop-up thunderstorms this afternoon. Most of us will stay dry but a quick downpour can’t be ruled out, especially east of I-65.

Any storms will die off this evening and a muggy night is in store with lows around 70°. Patchy fog may develop overnight once again with light winds expected.

Fri – Partly Sunny – High 91º / Fri Night – Mostly Cloudy, Sct’d Storms – Low 70º

Friday will be our last day dealing with all of this heat and humidity. Surface high pressure over the Appalachians will slide east as a cold front to our northwest begins to move into the Ohio Valley. Ahead of the cold front, southerly winds and partly cloudy skies will make for another afternoon with highs in the lower 90s.

We will see an increase in cloud cover by Friday evening as the front moves closer. The cold front will provide enough lift to produce numerous showers and thunderstorms overnight on Friday. Precipitable water values will be around 1.5″ so storms will be capable of producing very heavy rainfall. A few storms could be on the strong side, but the bulk of the thunderstorm activity will occur overnight when our instability is at a minimum. Most locations should see 0.25-0.5″ of rainfall.

Sat – Mostly Cloudy; Sct’d Showers & Thunderstorms – High 85º / Fri Night – Mostly Cloudy, Iso’d Thunderstorms – Low 63º

Our rain chances will continue into Saturday morning as the cold front sinks passes east of our area. Numerous showers and thunderstorms will impact the area, if we are able to get some sunshine in between rounds of precipitation there could be enough instability to produce a few stronger storms.

By late Saturday afternoon, any showers and storms will be winding down as winds turn to the west. A few isolated storms are possible early Friday night, but partly cloudy skies will move in overnight with out low temperature dipping down into the lower 60s.

The good news is that this cold front will bring in cooler air for Sunday and the start of the work week. Finally we will see some relief from the heat and humidity.
