After a foggy and somewhat dreary start to our day, some sunshine is finally beginning to peak through southern Kentucky. Partly cloudy skies will win out for the remainder of this afternoon and early evening before skies eventually clear tonight.

Upper level riding will work across the region later tonight as drier air settles in under mostly clear conditions. Overnight lows will be much more comfortable and less muggy as temperatures drop into the upper 60’s.

I know the feeling…

Thu – Mostly Sunny; Iso’d Storms – High 91º / Thu Night – Partly Cloudy; Mild – Low 72º

As we head towards late week, conditions will only grow warmer. Upper level ridging will continue to grip the region as winds from the south pump in some low level moisture. Dewpoint temperatures will rise into the lower 70’s with precipitable water values near 1.4”.

Overall, our Thursday will shape up to be hot and humid one. However, your typical summer time pattern will continue as the chance for a few pop-up showers and storms will exist during the peak heating (afternoon) hours. Of course these diurnally driven storms will remain widely scattered in nature, but worth mentioning in the forecast.

Any activity that develops will bring a brief heavy rainfall. Otherwise, look for all development to die off by the evening hours with the loss of daytime heating. Partly cloudy skies will hang around with mild lows in the lower 70’s.

Fri – Partly Sunny; Iso’d Storms – High 92º / Fri Night – Mostly Cloudy, Sct’d Storms – Low 71º

Our late week will feature an increased chance for scattered storms across the area. Southerly winds will continue pumping in plenty of moisture into southern Kentucky as our next rainmaker arrives. A cold front will sag southeastward from our northwest providing the trigger needed for storm development. At this time, it seems that isolated storms will be our best bet through Friday afternoon and early evening.

As the aforementioned front works closer to the Commonwealth by Friday night and early Saturday morning, more widespread storm development will likely occur. Although severe weather looks minimal with this set up, some storms will contain heavy rainfall, gusty winds and dangerous lightning.
