Much Needed Rain for Bowling Green

Real Time Radar For Bowling Green Weather:

Today 8/7 – Mostly Cloudy, Iso’d PM Thunderstorms – High 89° / Thur Night – Scattered Showers & Thunderstorms – Low 69°

6am 69º – 9am 81º – 12pm 86º – 3pm 88º – 6pm 84º

Good morning, our weather is getting ready to change pretty drastically as an area of low pressure will be slowly moving east across the Missouri and Ohio Valleys over the next few days. This low will bring us some much needed showers and thunderstorms. Usually rain in the forecast puts a damper on things, but I think that it is safe to say in our current drought status it deserves some celebration.

Today, a warm front extending out ahead of the low will be just to our southwest and this will serve as a boundary for storms to fire along later this afternoon. Not all of us will see rain this afternoon, and outside of any showers expect partly cloudy skies with a high near 90°.

As we head into tonight, precipitation coverage will increase as this low continues moving closer. We will start to see much more widespread showers and thunderstorms with low temperatures hovering around 70º. Tonight’s rainfall amounts should be less than a quarter inch, but there could be a few locally heavier amounts in thunderstorms.

Friday – Cloudy, Thunderstorms – High 86° / Fri Night – Scattered Thunderstorms – Low 71°

Our best chance for rain and thunderstorms will come in on Friday as multiple rounds of precipitation impact the area. The area of low pressure will cross into southern Illinois by tomorrow afternoon and there will be plenty of lift to fuel showers and storms. One issue we will really need to keep an eye on tomorrow is the threat for heavy rain, as it looks like we have the chance to pick up to an inch of rain.

Check out the latest forecast from the WPC which shows rainfall amounts between 1-1.5″ tomorrow. If this were to verify, it would be very beneficial to helping bust our drought.

Look for our precipitation activity to decrease by tomorrow night, but only slightly. We will still see scattered thunderstorms around the area with another quarter inch or so of rain possible.

Saturday – Scattered Thunderstorms – High 87° / Fri Night – Isolated Thunderstorms – Low 69°

The area of low pressure will move right over Kentucky on Saturday and we will see rain chances yet again. The good news is that we will be on the backside of this area of low pressure meaning that as it continues to move off to the east we should dry out by late Saturday night into Sunday.

Here’s what the WPC thinks the surface map will look like Saturday morning, notice the low is just to our east.

Rainfall amounts on Saturday could reach a half inch, with temperatures reaching into the upper 80s. By Saturday night we will see isolated thunderstorms coming to an end, with some clearing skies late. Be sure to monitor the forecast over the next few days, as there is certainly the possibility of 1-2″ of rainfall across the area.
