Storm Chances Ahead

Real Time Regional Radar:

This Afternoon – Mostly Sunny, Stray Storm – High 93º / Tonight – Partly Cloudy, Warm – Low 72º

3pm 93º – 6pm 90º – 9pm 83º – 12am 77º – 3am 74º – 6am 72º

An area of high pressure will continue to push eastward today as winds have now shifted more southerly. In return, the heat and humidity has turned up quite a bit. Highs this afternoon have soared into the upper 80’s, lower 90’s with heat index values in the mid-upper 90’s. Of course, if you’re battling the heat today, be sure to drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.

Outside of the heat, a stray shower or storm will be possible for the remainder of the afternoon. Look for any activity that develops to diminish by the evening hours as partly cloudy skies hang around with warm temperatures in the lower 70’s.

Wed – Partly Sunny; Sct’d Storms – High 93º / Wed Night – Mostly Cloudy; Storms Likely – Low 67º

Temperature wise Wednesday will mimic Tuesday in many ways. Highs will reach the low 90’s as hot and humid conditions prevail. However, look for more cloud cover to work in across southern Kentucky as a cold front tracks southeastward from the northwest Wednesday afternoon. Once again, heat index values will make a run near 100 degrees by mid-afternoon.

The frontal passage will supply the lift needed to spark showers and storms across the Commonwealth. Precipitable water values near 1.8” indicate a juicy atmosphere along with moderate instability that will be in place. Meager bulk shear parameters suggest limited severe potential with this set up, although a few storms could be strong, even severe.

With that said, major threats with any storms will remain heavy rainfall, damaging winds (in the case of a severe storm) and lightning. Look for the front to pass through southern Kentucky late Wednesday night, early Thursday morning with a few lingering showers early Thursday.

Thu – Partly Sunny; Pleasant – High 81º / Thu Night – Partly Cloudy; Cool – Low 62º

With the frontal passage occurring late Wednesday night, early Thursday, conditions will set up quite nicely for the day. Cooler and drier air will filter in from the northwest under partly cloudy skies. Temperatures will struggle to reach the lower 80’s for Bowling Green providing another unseasonably cooler day. Get jiggy with it…
