Heavy Rain Today; Cooler Weather Later

Real Time Regional Radar:

Today 7/14 – Scattered Thunderstorms – High 87° / Tonight – Scattered Thunderstorms – Low 66°

We have a seasonably strong trough working its way into the region today. This will provide for us a chance of some thunderstorms throughout the day. A strong cold front will also be moving into the area this afternoon and evening, providing some extra lift for widespread showers and thunderstorms.

A few of the the storms may be strong to severe with gusty winds and hail. However, the main hazard will likely be heavy rainfall. We are in a very moist environment and storms may train over the same places. This will result in rainfall amounts potentially exceeding 2″ for the day. This could lead to flash flooding concerns across the region.

Thunderstorms with heavy rainfall and vivid lightning will continue into the overnight hours until the cold front passes. After the frontal passage, expect conditions to improve with less rain and cooler conditions.

Tuesday 7/15 – Mostly Sunny; Cooler – High 78° / Tue Night – Clear – Low 57°

A drier airmass will settle into the region after the cold front passes, so expect better conditions on Tuesday. The airmass will also bring much cooler temperatures into the region. We’ll see a nice break from the heat with highs only reaching the mid to upper 70s under mostly sunny skies.

Tuesday night will bring clear conditions. This will allow for temperatures to drop considerably given the time of year. Expect lows down into the mid to upper 50s.

Wednesday 7/16 – Mostly Sunny – High 78° / Wed Night – Clear – Low 58°

High pressure will build into the region, which will bring in more stable conditions. Thus, we’ll expect Wednesday to be clear except for the occasional passing cloud. We’ll remain cool with the high pressure originating in Canada. Thus, we’ll expect highs to be in the upper 70s across the region. Do a happy dance!
