“Well done, atmosphere…well. done.”

Today 3/11 – Sunny & NICE – High 75˚ / Tonight – Scat’d Showers & Storms – Low 55˚

6am 48˚ ~ 9am 61˚ ~ 12pm 68˚ ~ 3pm 74˚ ~ 6pm 71˚ ~ 9pm 65˚

Today will start out sunny & splendid, with increasing clouds and breezy conditions anticipated through the afternoon.  Moisture streaming in from the southwest ahead of our next disturbance will be responsible for the cloud cover.  Soak in all the sun you can…big changes are on the way.

A surface low will track east/northeast across the Ohio Valley tonight.  This feature will provide a source of lift to the available moisture, which will fire off scattered showers & thunderstorms across south central Kentucky.  The following NAM simulated radar loops every 3 hours from 9pm tonight – 9am Wednesday morning.  This should give you a better idea of how this weather producer may behave:

NAM Simulated Radar 9pm Tues - 9am Wed
NAM Simulated Radar 9pm Tues – 9am Wed

Severe weather does not look likely from this setup, given the lack of instability that will be available.  With that being said, a few storms could become strong, capable of producing gusty winds up to 40mph, heavy rain, lightning and small hail.

Wed – Scat’d Showers & Storms, BREEZY – High 57˚ / Wed Night – Scat’d Rain & Snow Showers, COLD – Low 25˚

Showers & storms will continue through the start of our Wednesday, with activity eroding out as we get into Wednesday night.  Northwesterly winds will howl at 20-40mph *Ugh* as we get into Wednesday afternoon, as winter-like temperatures return with a vengeance.

Temperature values will plummet throughout our Hump Day, with overnight lows eventually holding in the lower 20s.  At this point in time, it looks like most of our moisture will be out of our vicinity before the below-freezing temps arrive.

Although this is the most likely scenario, I’ll keep a mention of scattered, light snow showers in the fold.  Accumulation amounts will be very minor, if anything at all.

Thu – Sunny & Cold – High 42˚ / Thu Night – Clear – Low 30˚

High pressure will take over behind our weather maker, nestling a much colder airmass into the region.  Again…soak in all the rays you can today, folks.  Brisk early morning winds on Thursday could send wind chills into the single digits!  No lie.
