Sinkhole Frenzy 2014…never forget.

This Afternoon – Partly Cloudy – High 45˚ / Tonight – Gradual Clearing – Low 18˚

3pm 45˚ ~ 6pm 33˚ ~ 9pm 28˚ ~ 12am 24˚ ~ 3am 20˚ ~ 6am 18˚

Significant winter storm continues to churn to our southeast, which may toss a few isolated snow flurries our way as we progress through the afternoon.  With temperatures well above freezing, impacts are not expected.

Those who stand the best chance at seeing any snippet of white stuff are those located along the Tennessee/Kentucky border, toward the Lake Cumberland region.  As I mentioned this morning, I don’t believe we’ll be seeing much of anything.

Have a look at the current radar depiction below for a better understanding of how our conditions are shaping up.  Much of this is not reaching the ground in Kentucky:

Overnight, cloud cover will gradually dissipate, as zonal flow aloft settles the atmosphere.  As cloud cover clears out, lows will take a tumble into the mid – upper teens.  You’d think they were caught in a sinkhole…too soon?

Thu – Sunny – High 45˚ / Thu Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 29˚

Surface ridging will keep us sunny and calm throughout our Thursday, as light, southerly winds escort temperatures into the low – mid 40s.  A welcomed sight if you ask me.  We’ll see a few scattered clouds work into the area on Thursday night, ahead of our next weather maker that’s slated to arrive on Friday.  All in all, a relatively quiet, mild day for south central Kentucky.

Fri – Scat’d Wintry Mix – High 40˚ / Fri Night – Iso’d Rain & Snow Showers – Low 22˚

A shortwave disturbance looks to advance across the region, bringing with it a moistening airmass.  What may start off as rain showers looks to transition to a scattered wintry mix of rain/sleet/snow, with all snow possible by Friday evening.  The GFS precip type model below is valid for 6pm Friday, and likes the idea of snowfall across a large portion of the Bluegrass:

Models are still in an argument regarding temperature profiles, which will make all of the difference concerning snow chances and potential accumulations.  As for now, we’ve still too far out to make any guesstimates.  Just keep an eye on the blog as the latest data continues to roll in.

That’s going to be it for the afternoon update.  As always, stay connected to @Wx_Or_Not & @WarrenCountyWx for the latest up to date weather information.  Enjoy the remainder of your Wednesday, and stay warm!  Thanks for reading.
